Love Barrow Families, co-ordinated by Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Cumbria County Council, is a project that helps vulnerable families in Barrow, Cumbria. The project is designed to improve the way that adult and children’s health and social care services work together to meet the complex needs of families in Barrow.
The idea behind the project is to support the whole family, assessing their real needs and discovering the skills and assets of the people in that family, and those surrounding them, to produce a specially-targeted package of support.
Through the project, which is funded by Lankelly Chase, staff at Love Barrow Families have daily contact with the families they work with, giving practical and emotional support to people who are often in crisis, without any judgment and with the important ingredient: consistency. Each family has its own goals, which they work towards, and some of the families are now able to assist the project through developing community activities, sitting on the project’s Board, and joining Love Barrow staff in presenting what the project does to other agencies and communities.
As a result, the families Love Barrow works with have developed extremely positive working relationships with the professionals involved in the project, and there have been examples of progress being made by families who have often struggled for many years.
