It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Communications Manager Chantal Benjamin who had been ill with cancer throughout this year. Chantal joined Lankelly Chase in September 2014 after a long career at the BBC. She was our first communications manager and introduced many of the communications systems and practices that will endure at Lankelly Chase.
Chantal was a unique personality, bringing sharp insight and irreverent humour to a rather earnest team. She was always determined to be herself, and this allowed those around her to show more of themselves. Conversations with Chantal fizzed with creativity, unexpected turns and lots of laughter.
Chantal’s drive for excellence was infectious, as were her lifelong interests in the media industry and mixed race and LGBT issues. Life at the margins was her passion and she always reminded us of the courage it takes of people to be ‘the marginalised case study’ for an issue and how much duty of care we as charities or broadcasters owe to those people who are willing to put their own lives and stories out there. She argued indignantly against clichéd images of ‘helpless people’, always seeking ways to show people’s passions and strengths.
We will miss Chantal deeply and we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, of whom she was intensely proud.
