The School and Family Works deliver a highly effective therapeutic intervention for children at risk of exclusion from school. Engaging children and families in a slow, sensitive, and non-stigmatising way, children and their families are invited to group counselling sessions.
Unlike other children and family therapy services, The School and Family Works also involve teachers. Indeed, they have developed a highly innovative model that uses family therapy to address behaviour problems in school, changing teachers’ perceptions of “naughty kids”, building bridges between disconnected parents and schools, and ultimately keeping children in school and avoiding exclusion, which will positively impact on these children’s future life chances.
The School and Family Works have noted in particular the cultural change that happens across the schools they work in as teachers adapt their teaching methods, integrating more sensitive approaches to troubled pupils and their families.
