Using the law to address unfair systems: A case study of the Personal Independence Payments legal challenge

The report seeks to address the following research questions: – Who was involved in the legal challenge and why? – What characterises their collaboration? – What systemic change can be described as arising from the case? In this case study data gathering included compiling key documents associated with the case, semistructured interviews with 14 research participants including some of those most closely involved in the case as well as individuals who were working to implement the judgment. It also included an analysis of media coverage of the case. The objective of the report is to offer an in-depth exploration of the litigation process and to extrapolate key lessons about litigation as a means of addressing discrimination and disadvantage.
